International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) has taken a first step to expand an educational module based on Islamic framework by signing a memorandum of understanding with Malaysian Red Crescent Society (MRCS).IIUM was represented by Y. Bhg. Prof. Dato’ Dr. Syed Arabi Idid, rector of IIUM and MRCS was represented by Hisham Harun Hashim, Deputy National Chairman of MRCS. Dr. Azmi Haron, who is the Director of Harun M.Hashim Law Centre was also there to witness this historical event on 15th March 2007 at Central Administrative Complex.
Hisham Harun in his keynote address said he was glad because IIUM has taken an appreciation on the works that have been done by MRCS.
“The main objective of this signing ceremony is to create a better understanding on International Humanitarian Law (IHL) and International Disaster Responsive Law (IDRL) with the underlining of the Islamic teaching.”
He added this is the first module in
Malaysia that implements the Islamic teachings in IHL and IDRL.
Dr. Azmi Haron mentioned “This module would create an early preparation for the students in shaping their positive attitudes. The present humanitarian law is based on the Western context, thus we need an Islamic perspectives in order to curb the problems that is happening in the Muslim community.”
Regarding to the program, the teachings would be thorough and the class would be conducted on Saturday only. The instructors would be taken from Afghanistan, Burma, United Kingdom and
When being asked on the fees, he said they would try their best to minimize them. Dr Azmi added, “Besides, we are planning to get a funding from the World Bank and Islamic Bank because this matter is important for the survival of the Muslim ummah.”
This momentous ceremony which was organized by Harun M.Hashim Law Centre has officially marked the establishment of the relationship between both sides.
The MoU will be focused to promote on IHL, IDRL and other related matters.
